Hi,
Winter is upon us but the good news is that we can have those wonderful casseroles that we can't face when its warmer.
The other good news (for those of us that prefer the warm) is that with the Winter Solstice happening this weekend that winter is almost over. I knew that's likely to raise an eyebrow or two, but read on.
You see some years ago I was explaining how the seasons worked in Australia, to a friend from the UK. He was intrigued that we'd mark the seasons by the month rather than solstice/equinox as they do in Europe. That it started pouring rain that year on June 1 certainly helped my case.
So he was confused as to what happened therefore on the Winter Solstice (June 21). I explained that that marked the end of winter, as the days were now getting longer again. Simple really ... longer days means more sunshine which obviously means the end of winter.
Works for me, but somehow he wasn't completely convinced that three weeks of winter was quite right. But if you're not a fan of cold, feel free to espouse the solstice theory.
Just a very quick newsletter this time, everything being so hectic for the end of the financial year. Don't forget to get in touch if you need a little help keeping the chaos in order.
Until next time,
Adrian McCowage
